5 benefits of getting your beauty sleep and how to achieve it with Fusionary formulas by Katy Taurel

Your Beauty Sleep is a great way to improve your beauty and health. In this article, I would share 5 benefits of getting your beauty sleep and how to achieve better sleep.

Airbrush makeup is the perfect combination of technology and art in every stroke of air.

Flawless, smooth natural skin and super long-lasting makeup have never been easier!

I loved it the day I tried it out. It is easy and cost-effective, my clients started to be happier and happier with the results.

Airbrush makeup feels weightless on the skin while creating beautiful long-lasting coverage. Being much more hygienic since the product is Airbrushed (sprayed) onto the skin.

The coolest about Airbrush is that you may achieve a lot with a very basic kit, blending in to create colors and textures. Temptu has a wireless super compact compressor.

My Favorite formula is the S/B formula, you can get the same product in different colors and textures that could be used and combined everywhere depending on the effect you want.

I definitely recommend to all of my fellow artists to try airbrush as a super effective technique to create the perfect skin for our clients. With the Temptu air, you can also use it for your daily makeup, definitely try it out if you love longlasting flawless makeup.

Want to learn more about airbrush makeup? Let’s meet on a one on one class where you can learn all about it,

Hair Rollers

Yefat by Katy Taurel

The classic image of the ladies in the hair salon with rollers in their head! And even as technology advances, this is still one of the most popular techniques to give your hair volume and movement.

There are many ways and products to create this technique. My favorite without heat is the Velcro rollers since they hold onto your hair easily.

The technique that I use the most is my “hot roller” technique. What I do is that I use a curling iron to roll the hair and then pin it in place while is hot, the result is a beautiful polished and long lasting voluminous hair that then is super easy to use for any updo. The key part to this technique is that you pin the curls while hot so they cool down in shape. I love that is a quick way to do it and you can even DIY 🙂 That’s my secret to do updos even with shorter hair, a classic with a modern twist 🙂

Setting and Fixing Sprays

A very good and effective way to include skincare on your daily routine is to use Sprays. They apply and absorb fast creating a seamless effect.

Mistakenly, we things that all of them are the same, but actually there are at least three types of sprays that we could work with and they create very different results.

Hydrating spray: Great to quench your skin and add extra moisture to it during the day or after removing your makeup for a quick moisture fix. Pro Tip: Use it before your makeup to prime, splash your blender sponge with it to get a softer effect.

Setting spray They help us prime and blend the layers of primer and makeup on your skin. It creates a seamless look and holds everything in place. They are great to blend powdered and mineral foundations. Mostly water and essential oils based. Pro Tip: Splash a bit on your eyeshadow brush to create a higher shine and intense texture.

Fixing spray: These are the ones that help your makeup last longer. They are mostly alcohol-based and may contain oils but alcohol is usually one of the top four ingredients. It works better when combined with a previous layer of setting spray since it gets to all layers of makeup that way. They tend to have more perfume to cover the alcohol scent; if your skin is dry or sensitive use it only on special occasions. Pro Tip: They come in different finishes, matte or glowy choose according to your desired effect.

Now that you know the different spray options you can choose to use them alternatively or together according to your desired effect. I love to start and finish my makeup with splashes it feels refreshing as well it makes it look much more beautiful.

Haielle Beauty

Beauty is balance. Feeling pretty is as important as actually looking pretty and, looking beautiful and radiant is merely impossible if you are not taking care of your health as well. Haielle is an inspiring brand that understands the importance of  A holistic view, merges science and nature to balance & enhance your natural beauty from the inside out. Viva GLAM

A product that has been dear to me throughout my career is definitely MAC Viva Glam Lipsticks and Lipglosses. MAC has raised more than $400 million dollars for the MAC Aids fund selling lipsticks, lipglosses, and lip kits since 1994.

Viva Glam has been endorsed by amazing personalities, Ru Paul, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Debbie Harry, Boy George, Cyndi Lauper, Nicki Minaj, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Dita Von Teese, Shirley Manson, Mary J Blige, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Taraji P. Henson and most recently Sia.

100% of the purchase price of any VIVA GLAM product goes toward the M·A·C AIDS Fund . The M·A·C AIDS Fund itself is a pioneer in HIV/AIDS funding, providing financial support and awareness to organizations working with underserved regions and populations. One of the most impressive things is that they work with local communities around the globe where the lipsticks are sold.

The years I worked for MAC I was actively a VIVA GLAM Ambassador, every lipstick we sold reminded us of the huge impact that one small action could do. For example, one lipstick could pay for a month supply of vitamins for an HIV+ person, or about 254 condoms, or 1 CD4 test.

Beauty with a purpose is always something I am very excited about, that’s why VIVA GLAM is always a product dear to my heart. Thanks, MAC for teaching me that we could save the world one lipstick at a time!

Glitter

Michelle Taurel, Katy Taurel, Sharon Levy Glitter

Glitter is an excellent way to take your makeup to the next level! It makes any look stand out way more. Usually, we would consider glitter to be a shiny mess but nowadays there are a few different ways you could apply glitter in a very clean manner.

  • Use glitter lipgloss to enhance your lips and give them a soft sparkle. For a beautiful editorial look (not long lasting) add a drop of glittery gloss on the eyelids and cheekbones.
  • Liquid glitter eyeshadows are a great trend and a super clean way to add a sparkle to your eyes. Layer a little bit on your lips for an extra shiny look.
  • Pressed pigments and glitters are super cool. They give you the same effect than loose glitter but come in a much more comfortable presentation.
  • Prime your lid before applying glitter with a cream foundation, a glitter primer or lash glue to make sure that your glitter stays exactly where you apply it.
  • If you are using loose glitter be sure to do your eyes (or the area you will apply the glitter) before so you could clean the rest of the face afterward.
  • Clean your brushes just after you finish applying glitter so you won’t have an unplanned sparkle in your next makeup.

Makeup Dictionary – Lash Primer

lash primer katy T

Big Lashes are on trend and it just gets better and bigger. My secret to help your lashes look like you are wearing false lashes every day is to use a lash Primer.

A lash primer does two very important tasks: Creates a protective coat between your lashes and the mascara and gives an extra coat of thickness and length to your lashes. When you use a lash primer your lashes look longer, thicker, more defined and curled, but the biggest benefit is that mascara is much easier to remove when you wear a primer before.

Take care of your eyes and be mindful of the expiration date. If you use your lash primer every day, renew it every two months, max four months. As with your mascara when is no longer fresh it feels heavier than usual, and it becomes harder to remove.

Makeup Dictionary – Sponges

Katy Taurel Sponges

One of the best-known beauty products are the makeup sponges. They are cheap, convenient and effective. Using a sponge could help us to apply makeup quickly and flawlessly. Latex-free sponges are best because they are hypoallergenic and expand when wet to make application softer. The most used types of sponges are:

  • Wedge sponges – Convenient and disposable. They are great to apply efficiently and with a nice cover. Their flat edges are great for cleanup and polishing.
  • Round Disc sponges – Best for compact powder application. Easy to use for full coverage. Use it up to a month.
  • Blender sponges – Great for a flawless look! They come mostly in an egg shape, some have a slanted side, those are my favorite! You can blend with the round part and apply padding in with the flat side to get more coverage.

Sponges tend to absorb product if you wet them before use so they would be softer and would absorb less product. Wash your sponge after every use and dispose of them when they can’t get to their original color or smell differently.

When to renew your beauty products?

When to renew your makeup Katy Taurel

When beauty products that usually worked wonderfully, stop working for you a big factor to take into account is their expiration date.  While most makeup products don’t have a definite expiration date they do have a lifespan and changes in their quality can occur for various reasons.

Makeup Dictionary – Brow Products

Brows by Katy Taurel

If the eyes are the window to the soul the brows are the frame to the window. Your brows are a very important part of your look and personality, how you choose to style it makes a huge difference if you like them natural or very defined gives a completely different look.

There are many brow products on the market, these are the most common:

  • Brow Gels: Or brow mascaras, they look like lash mascara but formulated for brows. Its purpose is to comb and set them in place and some are colored so it would give a fuller brow look and cover gray hairs.
  • Brow shadow: Any eyeshadow with brow tones is good. Some brands have specific shadows for the brows that are sheerer than regular eyeshadows.
  • Brow liners: Or sometimes also known as brow gels. These are gel liners (similar to gel eyeliner) made to give the brows a more structured look.
  • Brow primers and conditioners: Made to soften your brow hairs and condition them for better growth.
  • Brow pencils and pens: Thin pencils or markers to give a more natural look by drawing each hair.
  • Brow highlighters: Pencils, powders or creams in light skin like tones, sometimes shimmery to apply on the brow bone with the purpose t. For this purpose, you can use your concealer, highlighter or light eyeshadows. Personally, I prefer to use matte or satin textures.

How to choose the right color? First of all is a question of style the darker the more dramatic. If you are looking for a natural look, generally I recommend using to use the color of your roots or the darkest tone you have in your hair if you have highlights. For a softer look use a tone lighter than your hair tone.

Brows are the stylists of your face, play with different brow products and create looks you love.

Makeup Dictionary -Highlighter

KatyTaurelShantiEightBells

To get a gorgeous celebrity glow use the highlighter to enhance the higher planes of the face. The cheekbones, cupid bow, inner eye corner. Mix different textures to get a more interesting and natural look.

Highlighting complements and enhances contouring of the face. For highlighting you can use shiny textures and/ or light colors. Choose textures and colors according to your taste and effects you want to achieve. Remember to combine your highlight with shading so it looks natural and not exaggerated.

In general highlighting powder does not expire, renew it if you notice changes in texture and color. Other types of highlighters might expire, check the seal to be sure when.

Katy Taurel False Lashes

If there is one item of makeup that I highly recommend for every woman to use daily is mascara, enhancing our lashes makes a big difference by opening and framing our eyes, enhancing their natural beauty. That said, a little bit of drama could enhance our eyes much more! False lashes are a tool that has been misunderstood by many as exaggerating your look, but if you use them in the right size and shape they could do wonders for your look and even allow you to make the makeup less dramatic having your lashes as the focus.

There are many shapes and sizes for false lashes. The individual ones are easier to use as a makeup artist as it allows us to custom create the look that we need. Strip lashes are great for personal use since they are easier to apply and you can get any effect you like ready to wear and most of them are reusable; be sure you measure them before applying them to ensure they are the right fit.

Light!

Katy Taurel best lights for makeup

Light! What makes all this beauty possible. Your look changes completely depending on the light you have. The right lighting would help you see all the things you need to so your makeup would be perfect. You want to have just enough light so you can see all imperfections as they are and have it positioned in a way that is flattering and does not create false perceptions.

Daylight is the best but is not realistic, natural white light is the next best thing (some brands even sell bulbs name “daylight”). Avoid yellow, rose and fluorescent lights as they change the perception on your skin tone and texture and are not bright enough so you could properly see what you are doing.

You want the light to be in front of you so there won’t be any shades creating false contours or imperfections. Stay away from overhead strong lights those are the less flattering.

Day 52 Powders

Katy Taurel Powder

To smooth the skin and seal the foundation its great to use powders. Powder could come compact or loose; sheer or with a lot of coverage.

Every foundation needs to be sealed to achieve a much better finish, even if it’s just in some specific areas of the face like the T- Zone. Using powder will improve the final texture, control blot and make the makeup last longer.

The compact powder is a little more comfortable and portable than the loose one, but sometimes loose powder could give a softer look.

Use a sheer powder for a softer more natural look and to retouch. Use a powder with more coverage to improve a flawless look or renew your makeup in the middle of the day.

A good way to manage the coverage of your powder gives you it’s by using different brushes. Use a big fluffy brush to achieve a soft look with sheer coverage, use a smaller buffer brush to get maximum coverage.

Powders don’t have a definite expiration date but be mindful to keep them clean. If you use a sponge to apply the powder, store it separately and renew it every month.

Sun care for your hair

Katy Taurel hair sun

The same as your skin, your hair needs sun protection as well. UVA/UVB rays along with heat, salt and water can leave hair dry, brittle, and if you have color-treated strands, faded. Especially in the summer, this is definitely a step you should add to your routine.

Use a heat and UV protectant before styling it and while in the sun SPF. You can also do deep hydration treatments and use after sun shampoo and conditioner the days you go out in the sun.  If you are a lot in the pool keep your hair up and rinse it after you get out, apply a leave-in conditioner or after sun product and detangle.

Remember to take care of your hair and scalp as much as you do with your skin, to avoid sun damage and maintain a healthy beautiful hair.

Sunless Tan

Sunless Tan Katy Taurel

Safely achieving a beautiful sunkissed look is possible in two ways: Makeup and Sunless Tanning products.

Unlike UV tanning (UV chambers or beds), Sunless tanning is safe since there is no exposure to UV rays or burning of the skin. In most of them, the “tan” is achieved by the active ingredient  DHA (dihydroxyacetone),  The resulting reaction of this agent and the amino acids in the skin causes browning, but unlike the reaction caused by UV rays, it involves only the outermost, dead cell layer of the skin.

You can get spray tan professionally or use home products. To achieve professional quality at home, remember to exfoliate before and apply it to smooth skin following the instructions carefully. Wash your hands to avoid streaks afterward. Remember that when you are tanned fake or from the sun, it does not mean you are immune to sun damage so you still have to stick to a sun-safe routine of sunscreen and protective clothing.

Aftersun

KAty Taurel After Sun

Even with Sunscreen, we can get “burned” in the sun. Taking care of your skin is crucial to help it heal and avoid damage as much as possible.

  • Double the amount of moisturizer you use, burned skin reacts better to creams than oils.
  • Use cooling gels. I recommend the ones that are made from 100% Aloe Vera gel or Calendula. Both known for their regenerating and healing powers. Use them as much as you like.
  • Moisturizing sprays are also great to replenish the amount of water in your skin and calm the burn.
  • A week after you tanned scrub with a sugar scrub to help the renewal of the skin.
  • Makeup does not sit well on tanned skin so keep it to the minimum and if you must use thin layers of creamy and liquid products.

Let your skin heal before you start any new skin regimen. And remember to keep using sunscreen, even if your skin is tanned already the sun could still cause damage as in normal skin.

Bronzer

Bronzer By Katy Taurel

After using foundation, our skin tends to look a little too even in color, to improve this and give a tridimensional effect a bronzer is an excellent tool.

Bronzers are also used to give a sun-kissed look to our skin.

A bronzer could be golden, bronze or copper tones. For contouring, it should be a powder, concealer or foundation darker than your skin tone.

Bronzers can be shiny or matte (matte is much better for contouring). It could come in powder, cream or even liquid form.

Choosing the right color is crucial. It’s recommended to take a bronzer that is at least two tones darker than your skin tone to get a  strong enough effect that isn’t too dark. If you want a more sun-kissed look, go for bronzers that are in the copper, bronze, and golden tones depending on what looks better with your skin.

Positioning it’s also essential. You want to place bronzer where the sun would touch your skin, the higher planes of the face, and not all over.

In general, the bronzing powder does not expire but renew it if you notice changes in texture and color. Other types of bronzer might expire, check the seal to be sure.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen by Katy Taurel

I talk a lot about the importance of sunscreen in our daily skincare. Being outside in the sun is great for us to breath fresh air and improve our vitamin D levels, it is associated even with levels of happiness. But the sun can cause severe damage and speed the aging process of the skin; cancer, wrinkles, and pigmentation are the most common.

Safety while outside is essential to the health of our skin. Use mineral SPF (fewer chemicals) daily even if you think you are in the shade, a minimum of SPF 30 is the recommendation of the American Academy of Dermatology. Stay in the shade on the strongest hours (generally between 11 am – 3 pm). And remember to renew it a few times a day (every 2 hours if you are outside).

Personally, I love using makeup that has SPF in it to skip one step. Be sure that your SPF comes with Broad Spectrum which means that protects against both UVA and UVB rays and that your protection is minimum SPF 30. A great tip to increase sun protection during the day is to apply powder, it works as a physical barrier from the sun because is generally made of Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, both act as reflectors and repel light.

We all want a beautiful sunkissed look for the summer, this week I would share with you all of my tips to achieve it safely.

Tinted Moisturizers

tintedmoisturizerbykatytaurel

A tinted moisturizer is very useful for our everyday makeup, prepping your skin with a soft layer of coverage while moisturizing and protecting it from the sun. I love a product that saves me time while doing many things at once.

When choosing the right one for you think of it as skin care and match it to your skin type and needs. Look for formulas that are based on natural ingredients that make your skin glow from within.

A few application tips:

  • Use your hands while applying it to massage it evenly onto your skin, the warmth of your hands would add an extra glow!
  • Skip the powder to keep a fresh dewy look.
  • Play with the tone, is a very sheer product, you can slightly change the tone to a darker one or a different undertone to get a very soft sunkissed look. Match the tone to your shoulders to get a tone closer to your body and blend it well.
  • Reapply it through the day to restore the moisturizer and SPF as need it.
  • Mix it with your favorite skin care to enhance moisture or sun protection.

Face Cleanser

Face Cleanser

Cleaning your face is an essential part of skincare. The best way to choose the right Face Cleanser for you is to match the one that fits your routine. Be sure to choose a cleanser that also includes some moisture in it so it won’t dry your skin.

The most common types of face cleanser:

  • Wipes: A quick fix! Presoaked on makeup remover, no need to rinse after use.
  • The MakeUp Eraser: A super soft cloth made from a polyester/silk blend you just need to wet it with warm water and wipe your makeup off. It “erases” even waterproof makeup. After you are done with it just wash it in the washing machine and use it again.
  • Liquid makeup remover: Soak cotton pads with it and clean. No need to rinse. This is also great for corrections while you do makeup, use it with a cotton swab to perfect your eyeliner or bold lipstick.
  • Oil-based makeup removers: Great for remove long-lasting makeup. Some are good to leave in as moisture to the skin, some may need to be rinsed. Natural oils like Coconut, Almond and Grapeseed are also great makeup removers.
  • Face wash: The most similar to body wash, some leather as soap. Needs to be rinsed. Great if you like the sensation of washing your face. Look for ones that have moisturizing ingredients in it.

Clean your face at least once a day even if you didn’t do makeup. Always moisturize after you cleanse.

Lipstick

Lipstick by Katy Taurel

Probably the best-known makeup products. In different textures and colors just wearing lipstick could transform your look in seconds and, is a great simple way to express yourself only by choosing a different color or texture.

You can go from bold to natural in all the shades, the trends are endless. To enhance your lips go for red undertones that are more natural and flattering in any of their shades.

To make the most of your lipstick I recommend playing with it, mixing them to create your own and find creative ways to use it. A few ideas on different uses for your lipstick:

  • As a blush or eyeshadow, just remember that strong red tones could irritate the eyes a little. To make it last set it with sheer powder or eyeshadow.
  • Mix a little bit of lipstick with coconut oil to create a tinted lip conditioner.
  • Neutralize tattoos, scars, and darkness with red-orange lipsticks before applying concealer.
  • Use frost lipsticks as highlighters and dark brown lipsticks as contouring sticks.

Enjoy playing with colors and textures and have fun trying this new uses for your lipsticks.

Tweezers

tweezers by katy taurel

A very important part of looking sharp is keeping your brows in shape and unwanted hairs out. A good pair of tweezers is an essential tool, there are many in the market at different prices here are some tips choose.

  • The tip matters: Pointed ones are great for getting ingrown hairs, Slanted tweezers are better for shaping, square-tipped ones are excellent to get a larger area of hair.
  • To get a good grip, use matte finish which is less slippery and opt for wide-grip with oval handles.
  • Stainless steel is best for your skin and it stays sharp longer.
  • Tweezers need to be sharp to get your hairs faster.

To keep them as new, always keep it with the plastic cap that comes with it. You can sharpen them at a knife store if needed. Clean them every time with alcohol, you can also sterilize them by soaking them in boiling water for a few minutes.

Always shape your brows and get rid of unwanted hair with good lighting and with enough time to do it properly. Do it at least every two weeks to keep a nice clean look.

Blush

Blush by Katy Taurel

After contouring it’s nice to add a little “color” to our complexion to make it look much healthier. To do it use blush- a product made in colors that resemble the naturally blushed hues of our cheeks. Blush could be powdered or cream.

A blush could be shiny or matte, and the most common colors are peaches, pinks, lavenders and light shades of browns. Try to look for red undertones in your blush for a fresher look.

A great tip to find the right place for your blush: smile and place it just where your cheek sits higher.

Serum

Serum by Katy Taurel

A serum It’s a softer medium where the molecules are much smaller, so it goes faster into your skin, making it an ideal medium for deeper treatment and in preparation for the rest of your skincare routine.

Normally a Serum would be very liquid in a gel or oily form. Most of the deeper treatments would be either a serum or enhanced by the use of Serum.

Why would you combine it with other products? Maybe using only a Serum could work in some cases, but in many a serum would be mostly to help your skin absorb the rest of the treatment. A good serum is basically like a straw that allows your skin to “drink” the moisturizer and treatments in a much more efficient way. In a few words, a Serum is an enhancer for your skincare routine.

To choose the right serum for you, focus on your biggest skincare concern, fixing it would be its main function. You can always complement it with your moisturizer and other skincare products.

Concealers and Correctors

When you need to give extra coverage to conceal imperfections, there are two products that are of great help: Concealers and Correctors.

A concealer is very similar to a foundation but with more coverage and safe to use in the eye area. Use concealer to cover darkness under the eye area or different imperfections in your skin.

It’s fundamental to choose the right color. Sometimes matching the tone exactly to your skin is not the best option. Instead, try matching it to what you need to conceal. If under your eyes is too dark, using a lighter concealer can cause a gray effect, so use concealers that are not much lighter than what you need to conceal. In many cases, a corrector could be very useful to use before concealer.

Correctors are very similar to concealer, but the color is specific to neutralize imperfections. Depending on the brand, they come in different tones. The most common ones are yellow and ochre to neutralize redness, peach, and oranges to neutralize dark spots and pigmentation.

The lifespan of concealers and correctors can be up to twenty-four months. Remember to check the seventh amendment seal to confirm specific to yours.

Mascara

A great colleague once said that “eye makeup is just preparing the canvas for lashes”. And I could not agree more. Our lashes are what define and open our eyes; it accentuates them, and our entire expression changes according to the makeup we decide to wear on our lashes.

So what is Mascara? It’s what we use directly on our lashes to color and enhance them. Using a mascara could enhance definition, length and the volume of your lashes; the formula and brush that comes within your mascara will define the effect.

Take care of your eyes and be mindful of the expiration date. If you use your mascara every day, renew it every two months, max four months. Mascara is no longer fresh when it feels heavier than usual, and it becomes harder to remove.

Go big! Wear mascara, play with different effects and if you want more drama to add extra lashes with primer and fake lashes.

The MakeUp Eraser

Makeup eraser by Katy Taurel

The most important part of makeup is to take it off by the end of the day. Sometimes it could become a little bit of a hassle at the end of a long day.

There is a great product that, in the most minimalistic way, helps you remove makeup just with water. The MakeuUp Eraser is a very revolutionary concept, is a super soft cloth made from a polyester/silk blend you just need to wet it with warm water and wipe your makeup off. It “erases” even waterproof makeup. After you are done with it just wash it in the washing machine and use it again.

I know, it sounds too good to be true. I tried it and it actually worked! My skin feels super clean afterward and it saves so much time and product! I do encourage you to moisturize after you use it.

As all revolutionary products, this brand has many dupes and imitations on the market, some of them are very good but not as smooth and soft as the original one. The brand does have a lot of sales, promotions and free samples so make sure you follow them if you want to seize the opportunity to try them out.

I love when beauty gets uncomplicated and this is definitely a product that does that. If you want more tips about makeup products (or anything beauty) or if you have any questions please come to my Facebook Group where I answer your questions and share tips and product recommendations daily.

Curling Irons

Curling Iron by Katy Taurel

A must-have in any hairdresser kit is the curling iron. Nowadays there are many effects and textures you can create with them, from polishing beautiful natural curls, creating beachy waves or just faking hot rollers to give more polish and volume to your hair. How to choose the right one?

  • The size of the barrel makes a difference.
    • If your hair is long or you just want really soft waves then try the very thick ones and work much faster.
    • A standard 1.5″ barrel would work for almost every effect.
    • If you want to define or create curls then go for the thinner barrels.
  • For personal use is easier to use the wands. But for a better finish, the tongs or marcel wands provide heat from both sides therefor a faster polish.
  • Always look for irons that get to max temperature fast. The hotter they are the faster they work, less damage to your hair.

Materials like ceramic, tourmaline and titanium, or a combination of them, are great to protect your hair from the heat.

Creating different textures is always a great way to create much more interesting looks.

Hairspray

A very important step when you get the perfect hairstyle is to make it last! Hairspray is a great product for finishing and setting any hairdo but there are so many uses for it as well. Some tips so you could make the most of your hairspray.

  • Don’t use a stronghold hairspray right away, sometimes medium hold spray is just enough and would give you a much softer look.
  • Use it to control flyaways. Spray a little bit on the top of your head and then tame the flyaways down with the back of the can.
  • Pinch your hair a little bit to create some texture after you spray it.
  • For a softer look yet long-lasting, spray your hair before styling it with the curling or flat iron. The heat would make it hard, then just comb it in the direction you need to give it a super soft yet long-lasting look.
  • Spray your hair from the tips up so it would fix it in place while giving it much more texture than if you would spray them from the top.
  • Spray your hair while wet and then braid it into a bun so it would have a beautiful texture after is dry.
  • Always spray from at least 3 inches distance so it would spray evenly and won’t create white stains on your hair.

Knowing how to fix in place is as important to your hairstyle as actually styling it. So experiment with different ways to create a long-lasting look worth your effort.

Lash Curler

LashCurlerbyKAtyTaurel

Beautifully curled lashes is a symbol of health and sexiness for centuries. And woman through history had many interesting, sometimes even dangerous, ways of curling them. From heating a spoon to applying many many coats of mascara, there is nothing that we haven’t heard is the “trick” to a perfect curl.

There is a safe instrument we have used the last decades, the lash curler. Basically is a manual device that you use putting your lashes in and pressing so it would “fold” them creating a beautiful curl. Is a very safe technique but there are a few things to be careful and a few tips to make it work nicer.

  • Don’t heat it. Many people heat the lash curler before using it with the purpose of making it last longer but is a very risky practice. You could easily burn or damage your lashes. A very good combination of lash primer, mascara and curler do a great job with no need for heat close to your eyelids.
  • Press the roots at the lash and not at the eyelid.
  • If your lashes are long, press two or three times in different places of the lash to get a better curl.
  • Curl them before applying mascara. That way you would set the curl.
  • If you can, don’t curl them every day.

There are many ways to make your eyes pop! curling your lashes is one of them. Using a lash curler is an extra we can add safely as long as we keep in mind that we are working on one the most sensitive areas of our body.

Lip Gloss

The best way to plump your lips in a second is to use lipgloss. It is my go-to lip product to create healthy shiny and sexy lips. It could be sheer, colored, sparkly; the thicker the texture the shinier it looks.

As sexy as it is lipgloss has a big flaw, it’s texture is not very “kissable”. A few tips could help you apply it in a way that would look perfect and last longer.

  • Use a small amount. Apply a little on the bottom lip then rub your lips together. To smooth it up, blend with the applicator after you rub your lips.
  • Fill your lips with lip liner before to create a long-lasting stain before you apply the lipgloss.
  • Scrub your lips before using lipgloss for smoother and more beautiful application.
  • Apply the lipgloss at the end of your makeup that way it would look fresh and won’t stick while blending other products. For my clients, I try to have them dress before I apply it for the same reason.
  • Always carry one of your favorite lipglosses with you so you could refresh your makeup during the day.
  • Use lipgloss! Is a great way to make you look amazing in just a few seconds.

Moisturizers

Moisturizer by katytaurel

Good makeup starts with good preparation. Prepare your skin for makeup with moisturizers and primer.

A moisturizer is a product that helps us balance the oils and water in our skin. They may also help improve different skin conditions and treat them.

Look for moisturizers that are simple and fast to absorb. Natural ingredients like shea butter, grape seed oil, almond oil, vitamin C, chamomile and grapefruit extract are excellent for your skin.

Brush Cleanser

Many times I get comments from my clients that their brushes stopped working as usual, or many times they start shedding hair. Most of the times the reason is that the brushes have not been cleaned.

Cleaning your brushes is a very important part of your beauty routine. It would take care of them and ensure that they get the maximum time of perfect quality, but most importantly it would prevent any bacteria build up and future infections.

Every makeup artist should clean them after every client and deep clean them at least once a week. For your personal use clean your lip and eyeliner brushes after every use, your foundation and liquid products brushes once a week and your powder (eyeshadow, powder, blush) brushes at least once a month.

Get the look: Glam Eye Liner

Beautiful Bridal Glam Liner

Classic and timeless – learn the basics to apply the perfect eyeliner and how to enhance it with fake lashes.

Eyeliner

Defining your eyes is the way to make them pop. An eyeliner could be a pencil, gel, marker, or liquid that comes in various colors to help you line, define and create different effects for your eyes.

Use a darker color to create a dramatic definition and lighter colors to create softer effects.

To decide which eyeliner is right for you, take into consideration the shape you want to create, the area that you want to line, and most of all, what type is more comfortable for you to use.

When lining your eyes be aware of proportions and angles. It’s essential to creating an eyeliner look that enhances your eye shape. Check my tutorial on how to create the perfect glam eyeliner for more tips on the right positioning.

Lip Balm

Lip balm by Katy Taurel

Maybe one of the best known and most used beauty product is the Lip Balm. Dry lips could be a problem for everyone men, women and kids.

The main purpose is to create a layer on top of the lips that would seal the moisture and keep them from drying and chipping. Lip skin is very sensitive since is very thin. It could dry for many reasons dry air, cold temperatures and dehydration.

Being so popular a lip balm could come in many options and forms. Tinted, with sunscreen, oily, creamy, in a stick or a tube. They can also contain many ingredients, check for those who are clean of toxic ingredients and are of simple composition.

You can easily DIY by using natural oils and butters like coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter or a mix of your own. Mix it with a little bit of an old lipstick or crushed eyeshadow to create a beautiful tinted moisturizer.

Dry Shampoo

Katy Taurel Dry Shampoo

My biggest recommendation for hair care is Do not wash it every day! I cant say that enough! The natural balance of your hair oils could only occur when you let it work naturally, meaning let your hair get a little dirty, a little oil so it could naturally balance itself.

Now, there is a way you can cheat this and keep it clean in between washes; that is by using Dry Shampoo. This amazing product basically absorbs excess oil from your scalp letting it feel refreshed even if you don’t actually wash it.

How to use it?

  • Wait at least one or two days from the day you washed it.
  • Do it at night so you would let it act overnight and brush your hair again in the morning to redistribute the remaining product and oils.
  • Apply it to your roots with a few inches distance so would apply evenly and it won’t look like little white stains.
  • Massage it into your scalp. And brush.

How often?

In between washes one or two times depending how much you wait to wash your hair.

How to know if you are washing your hair too much?

  • Your hair is thin and lacks shine. Probably it needs more of your natural hair oils to get stronger.
  • Your hair is very oily and you even feel you should wash it more than once a day. When the natural oils of your scalp are unbalanced it could also cause your scalp to over produce oil.
  • Your scalp itches or is very sensitive. It could be that is too dry from over washing it and that irritates it easily.
  • It stopped growing. No matter how long you wait it does not seem to get longer. (Check my article on How To Grow your hair longer)

If I could give you one very important tip for your haircare this is definitely it! A dry shampoo is a must-have item in all of my kits.
